Must Have Items for Your Carry on Bag

Packing for a trip can be exciting. Figuring out what and how much to bring in our carry on can get a bit stressful. Luckily, I’ve have finally figured out my carry on bag. Make a list of everything you will need to bring. It's best to begin with the bare essentials, then move on to the entertainment or work items. These bare essentials include your license or passport (depending on whether you are flying domestic or international), your wallet with money or credit cards in it, your phone, and medications you might need, and of course, your plane tickets. Other items to consider packing include:

  • Work or school items: this could include your laptop, your phone and laptop chargers, business notes, class notes, homework, reading that you have to do for class, etc.
  • Entertainment: books, headphones and an iPod, your camera, game consoles, DVDs to watch on your laptop, magazines, a travel book for where you are going, toys, etc.
  • Medications and toiletries: It's best to keep any medications you need with you on the plane. You could also consider bringing an extra pair of contact lenses, mouth wash, etc.
  • Stuff to help you sleep: This includes a neck pillow, eye mask, ear plugs, etc. Inflatable neck pillows are the best because they take up very little space when deflated.

Consider packing for a bad layover. If you get stranded overnight during your layover, or if your other luggage gets lost (pray that it doesn't) you might want to consider bringing a couple of items with you on the plane. You might want to put these items in their own small bag within your carry on bag. These items include:

  • A toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb or hairbrush, a fresh pair of underwear, socks, and deodorant.

1)  A Carry-On Bag

Many people completely over look this and find themselves with a bag too small or ever worse an over sized bag that they end up getting charged extra for. In most cases, the average size for a carry on bag is 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm). The weight really depends on the airport. I’ve heard of the weight being anywhere from 8 kg 17 pounds to 40 pounds.

I recommend a backpack with a wide zipper or zipper on the bottom to easily access items stuffed way down there without having to take everything out. Or a small bag with wheels to get around easily.

2) Travel Pillow

You will be happy you brought one. Avoid the blow up ones. Although much cheaper and easy to pack, they’re super uncomfortable. I personally like the memory foam ones over the bean bag style. You can get these anywhere.

3) Reading Glasses/ Contacts -if needed

5) Toiletries Bag

Always bring a small sample size of face wash, face lotion, hand lotion, a tooth brush, tooth paste, ear swabs and mouth wash.

6) Face towel

Usually for washing/ drying my face, spills or my makeup.

7) Chargers

Everyone always  forget to pack their chargers. Pack the all! For your camera, phone, laptop, MP3, Ipad, E-book and so on. In addition, it’s a great idea to bring an external battery.  Don't forget your Portable Chargers too

8) Dual Headphones Jack

WOW! If you’re traveling with others and you’d like to watch the same movie or listen to the same songs this thing is amazing! I never travel without it.

9)International Adapter

This has to be one of the most important  things to bring in general. this one off of amazon. It has many options so  you never have to worry.

10) Snacks

Do Not waste your money on airport or airplane snacks. They’re so over priced. bring something sweet, salty, spicy, something filling (like bread snacks) and some fruit; a zip lock of grapes or tangerines.

11) Medication

Pain pills, motion sickness, upset stomach, allergy pills, sleeping pills or anything you think you might need. Put a small amount in your carry on.

12) Makeup remover whips/ cleaning whips

You will need whips!

13) A Pen

14) Travel guide or language guide

For where ever you’re visiting. Get familiar and prepare yourself for the journey ahead

entertainment for the plane

15) Mints or gum

Just, bring it. For everyone’s sake. Plus, you never know who you might meet or the conversation you might have.
